How to Monetize Your YouTube Channel
This is a step-by-step guide about how to monetize your YouTube channel in 6 easy steps.
Let’s dive right in!
The first thing to mention is that YouTube changed its terms of service and that it can put ads on your videos, even if your videos have not been monetized yet. So, basically, you can have ads on your videos without making any money. But, don’t worry, here we will show you how the whole monetization process works. And, of course, how you can start making money with your content!
Step No.1
Make a youtube channel, and start making videos!
If you haven’t started yet, and if you are a bit confused, don’t worry, we got your back! Here is an article that can help you with your first steps as a YouTube content creator!
We have to mention that you have to live in a region where the YouTube partner program is available, here is the link, so check it out!
Step No.2
You have to follow monetization policies! So, stay clear of any content that features violence, nudity, foul language…
You have to keep your content clean and professional. It’s very important to ask yourself if this is the content that advertisers would want to advertise on? For more information on YouTube channel monetization policies, check out this link.
Step No.3
Keep posting consistently until you reach 1000 subscribers and 4000 public watch hours within 12 months. Your private and unlisted videos don’t count in the ”public watch hours”. And, one more thing, within the last 12 months means rolling 12 months. So, if you once get the monetization, you can’t stop working on your YouTube channel. It has to be consistent, so you don’t lose your monetization. Long story short: you can’t put your feet up once you get monetized, stay consistent!
Go to your YouTube homepaige, click on ”manage videos” . On your left side, when you scroll down, will be ”monetization”, click on it, and check out how your videos are doing. You can ask YouTube to notify you once you are legible to apply.
On the same monetization page there are 3 steps you have to follow to apply for monetization.
Step 1: you have to agree to YouTube partner program.
Step 2: create an AdSense account, and make shure you have only one! YouTube is very strict about that. So, click start on your AdSense acount, only if you don’t have one already, and fllow the steps on screen. If you do have one already, you can link as many of your YouTube chanels on this one as you want.
Step 3: get reviewed. Once you finish the first two steps, your channel will automaticly get reviewed. Your content will be checkd to see if you follow all of their guidlines.
You can check your YouTube status at any time at: https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UC/monetization
Step No.4
YouTube will send you an email about their decision. It can take a couple of days or sometimes even weeks, so don’t get discouraged.
If there are a lot of gray areas of copyright, it can take longer. Also, if you get rejected, don’t be discouraged, you can reapply in 30 days after you fix the issues of copyrighted content or any other problem you had.
Step No.5
How to not get copyrighted? If you’re using music you’re not licensed to use in your content; you won’t be able to monetize. To set up monetization on bulk, go to your channel’s homepage, click on manage videos. You will land on ”Channel content”: check the box ”Video”- all your videos will be selected at once. On ”Edit” select monetization, and make sure it is On.
If you want to check how much you earn on 28 days circle, click on ”Dashboard”, and under channel analytics, you can see how much you earn.
That’s all on how to monetize your YouTube channel!
Basically, these steps above are all you need to know about how to monetize your YouTube channel.
Now, let’s talk about how much you can earn once your channel is monetized and other possible sources of income on YouTube.
So… How much can you make if you monetize your YouTube channel?
It all depends on the number of clicks your ad gets, who is your niche, where in the world are you located. Here is important to hook up your audience to stay on your video longer, see more ads, and maybe click on some of them. Music can help you to hook up your audience, and make your video more interesting and easier to watch.
The average YouTube pay rate ranges between $0.001-0.004 for an ad view, which usually comes out to about $3 to $4 per 1000 video views. A more realistic expectation is probably to earn $1 to $2 per 1000 views. To explain it better, you need to be making over a million views per month to replace a full-time income. This is why many creators don’t rely on Google AdSense monetization solely.
Other ways to earn money on YouTube
Some of them below are directly linked to the YouTube Partner Program, and others are not. Let’s explore a little more.
Paid Content
It allows you to sell access to a specific video. You can set the price of the video. The earnings you make, you will have to split with YouTube. This might be fitting for business YouTube channels that desire to market a premium service. It could work for more personal channels too, but your viewers may dislike it. This way of earning requires you to agree to a ‘Commerce Addendum’.
Crowdfunding
Maybe your viewers want to sponsor you, to take them along on a trip, or to explore something interesting. If you want to make a small movie or maybe write a book, your loyal audience could take you there. People power is a real thing!
One more thing about crowdfunding, be prepared to offer your audience something good in return.
Super Chat & Super Stickers
This applies to live streamers. Your audience can pay money for their comment to be highlighted. This gives you a reason to chat with them a little more.
Do freelance work
With a good YouTube channel and good videos, you have good video/audio skills. You can create a brand and draw an engaged audience. Businesses might approach you, or you can try and approach them!
Sell your merchandise
With your content, you probably created some funny or catchy phrases that your audience loves. Some characters that they can associate with your channel. Maybe you noticed a gap in the market for products that you know your audience would love.
Think about some ideas, see the numbers, ask your audience about their opinion.
